Supervising Guidelines for Elementary Students in Unstructured Environments
Lunchroom, Playground, Field Trips, Etc.
- Gently ask the student to remember what is appropriate behavior in this situation (involve the learner).
- Remind, reinforce and model polite behavior: "Please use your sponge before leaving the lunch table."
- If a student is uncooperative or disrespectful, involve a staff member or administrator immediately.
- Praise students for appropriate behavior: "Thank you for lining up so quietly."
- Please do not physically intervene with a student. A caring touch may defuse a situation, but a push, shove, or grab may escalate the problem.
Safety is our first concern. If any student's safety is at risk, please intervene immediately to insure their well being and security.
